Some netizens on Twitter couldn’t hide their disappointment after getting informed that Quezon City’s first district Rep. Arjo Atayde authored the controversial Maharlika Investment Fund.

Atayde who’s the fiance of Maine Mendoza received criticisms from the netizens and even brought up the former love team of his girlfriend.

The congressman and ‘Aldub’ became trending topics on Twitter because of the comments received by Atayde from his critics.

“Anyare kay arjo? Kakaumpisa pa lang e ganyan na. Hay,” netizen @smurfsbest said.

“Arjo Atayde??? In the Maharlika Fund Scam??? Maybe we should support the AlDub fans this time and find the baby.” @geeyani tweeted.

“Matapos nakawin si Maine kay Alden at sa anak nila, ngayon naman hahayaan ni Arjo na nakawin ang pera ng kaban gamit ang Maharlika Fund. Mga ka-aldub, di tayo papayag dito. Pigilan si Arjo para mabalik si Maine kay Alden at sa anak nito,” netizen @MrMorrel remarked.

The proposed Maharlika Investment Fund Act became controversial after critics of the government pointed out that the money of the government might be put at risk.

Some netizens also said that it’s not clear who will be held accountable if ever the investment collapses.

However, some economists like Michael Batu said that the said sovereign wealth fund may give additional budget to the government.

“At siyempre para po hindi na tayo umutang nang mas marami sa hinaharap ‘no. Puwede na nating gamitin iyong kikitain mula sa Maharlika Investment Fund na ito para sa mga purpose na iyon,” Batu said.
