“If it can be shown that Ai-Ai was just acting out a role of a fictitious mayor in a campaign satire promoting the candidacy of a politician, then she may have a case to file against the QC City Council for unjust vexation, or even slander.” ani Contreras.
“Besides, defacing an emblem is a slippery slope since there is a thin line between defacing a symbol and creative alteration. In fact, this is a political satire that can even be defended as protected speech, very much like the image of Presidents, in effigies or tarps, being defaced or burned during political rallies.” dagdag niya pa.
“The video which circulated during the campaign period is clearly a satire, a parody. It is not intended to be a statement of fact and is clearly not meant to be taken seriously by the audience.” sabi ni Atty. Charo V. Rejuso-Munsayac, legal counsel ni Ai-Ai.
“The video was obviously intended to be watched and taken as a whole, all elements being fictitious, including the seal behind the character portrayed by my client.
“It is unfortunate that the city council is nitpicking to find basis to curb freedom of expression in the guise of defending a perceived dishonor.”
